There is something new coming to the Quilty world this week and I was asked to be part of the launch!
Have you ever wished there was a simple way to try different colour combinations on a quilt pattern when you first sit down to pick your fabrics? Trying to imagine colours is hard enough and sometimes look totally different in your head to how they would really look like in the flesh.
When Catalina Barceló from Amarar Creacions was designing her latest quilt pattern Starlike, she had the same thoughts and this is where QuiltInk was born! Between herself and her computer engineering husband they have designed a web-based app to ‘colour-in’ quilt patterns! So simple, yet so clever!

Each day over the next two weeks, a different quilt designer will be releasing a blog showcasing their patterns coloured-in using QuiltInk. A fun and informative blog-hop! They will be sharing some tips and tricks on how to use the app and today it is my turn!
So how does it work?
QuiltInk is a FREE website application for anyone to use to ‘colour-in’ a quilt pattern. You can only colour-in the quilt patterns that have been submitted and accepted by the website. The pattern designers who submit their patterns pay a small fee each month to have their designs available, so is another selling platform for them and exposure to potential new customers.
Without even the colouring-in side of things, this website is an incredible source of quilt patterns to browse in one place - which I personally love! How nice it is to be able to see more than one designers patterns side by side. A library of Quilty gold! And it is only going to grow and gain more over time.
The first page you land on is the library of quilt patterns. Scroll the page and click on a pattern that takes your fancy to colour differently. Choose the size, some patterns have different layouts for different size of quilt, and this will then send you to the colouring page for that size quilt.
This is the home page for QuiltInk with all the quilt pattern designs you can choose from.
Click on a pattern you would like to colour-in and choose a size from the list.
From this page you can customise your quilt pattern colours. Click on the paint palette icon on the bottom left area of the page. A box will pop up with a very thorough list of manufacturers of different solid fabrics. From Kona to Art Gallery Pure Solids, there are ten (at the moment!) different brands to choose from, so take your pick!
The page automatically loads the Robert Kauffman Kona Solid palette when you land on it - which makes this Kona Solid loving girl very happy!
Click on the colour palette symbol and choose your brand of fabric colours
Click on a colour button at the bottom to choose a colour and then press the part of the pattern to change.
Once you have chose your colour palette, colouring-in the pattern is easy! Simply click on the colour you want to use from the colours displayed at the bottom of the page and then click on the colour you would like to change on the quilt.
With my Retro Metro quilt pattern I have linked colours together, so if you click on a particular colour, everything part that colour will change. It is simply one click and everything changes. It is so quick and user friendly, the quilt pattern is transformed in minutes.
I have captured the moments I changed the colours of my Retro Metro Quilt pattern using QuiltInk, demonstrating the colours being linked and only having to click one area for all of the same colour to change.
Once you have re-designed the quilt with the colours you want to use, you can download the graphic. You can also save it to work on later, or save it and publish it to the ‘Wall’ where people visiting the site can see your version for inspiration.
You can view the “Wall” and everyone else’s designs uploaded to it via the link at the bottom of the home-page.

If you don’t already have the quilt pattern you have coloured-in, you can buy it from the QuiltInk site by clicking the shopping trolly icon in the top right of the design page. This will take you to the designers own selling page on their website.
