Collider becomes a Cross-Stitch!

Yes that’s right - two crafty worlds have collided (get it!) and transformed the Collider quilt pattern into a cross stitch pattern! If you are someone who likes to keep their hands busy and loves to sew in all forms then this collaboration had you in mind!

Through the powers of social media, Sally from Caterpillar Cross Stitch came across the Collider Quilt pattern and like so many of you, fell in love with it. And to make it even better, we were only a few miles away from each other as we are both based in Warwickshire. It was like the crafty stars had aligned and Sally reached out to see how I would feel about collaborating and turning the Collider quilt into a cross stitch pattern. It was an easy decision to make and I quickly rounded up a few of the scarps of material I had left over from this cover version of the quilt to send over so Sally could colour match the pattern.

Background info about Collider:

The Collider pattern is based on one block which is repeated and rotated across a nine-block grid. This forms the kaleidoscope shapes that makes the pattern so special and can mesmerise you while your staring at it, like a magic eye picture! (does anyone remember those? or am I showing my age?)

The colours for this cover version were inspired by the fabric I sued for the backing of the quilt, which had been safely living in my stash for some time, but I knew I wanted to put it to good use and so glad I did as it transformed this pattern into something special.

I am so blown away with how well the pattern has been transformed from a quilt pattern into a cross stitch pattern. I first designed the pattern in Pre-Quilt, a web-based quilt design programme. With PreQuilt I was able to pick and choose the exact same shade of colour fabric I would end up using, so it makes the design process so much easier to see exactly what it would look like, as you can see from the images below.

Seeing the first Collider Cross Stitch!

Once the first completed cross stitch had been made, I travelled the short distance from Stratford upon Avon up to Kenilworth Castle and met Sally for some product photo’s. It was the beginning of a heat wave here in the UK, the skies were clear and blue - we were armed and ready for our first joint quilts/cross stitch in the wild photoshoot! The day couldn’t had gone any better.

Seeing the first Collider cross stitch was incredible! The pattern had been perfectly transformed. Each point was pointy, the colours were a perfect match and it just looked incredible! I honestly can not wait to make my own Collider cross stitch and get it framed and up on my wall in my little work space.

Our day together ended with Sally back at Caterpillar Cross Stitch HQ recording a full video interview with for her You Tube channel where we chatted more about my journey into quilting and what inspired Collider. Check it out below:

This collaboration has been amazing. Connecting with a like minded craft-preneurs like Sally is so inspiring and it has been great to spend time and chat to someone who understands all the highs and lows of running your own craft business. She has been so lovely to work with and I am so pleased she reached out to make this happen!
