Easy Aldi Balloon Cake Hack!
My baby turned four! She is the youngest of my two girls and I can not believe how quickly the time has gone! Four just feels so grown up doesn’t it? We successfully held a little party for her at the weekend and even pulled off ‘creating’ the rainbow cake that she requested! After sharing a picture of the cake on my Instagram page I received so many lovely comments I thought I’d put down how we created it in a blog post.
All the ideas came from the power of social media - mainly Instagram. @marthashappilyeverafter had shared a fantastic Aldi cake hack and @candleandcakeparty produce the beautiful balloon cake toppers.
What you will need:
2 x Aldi Party Cakes (£3.99)
Balloon Rainbow Cake Topper (£6.99)
(the following were all purchased at Morrisons)
100 and Thousands (99p)
Buttercream Frosting (£1.75)
Happy Birthday Cake topper (£2.99)
Number 4 Candle (79p)
Step One:
Place the two cakes on top of each other - straight from the box
Step Two:
Take the buttercream frosting and carefully apply it to the sides of the cake using a pallet knife. We placed the cake on a cake turntable, which helped to apply it evenly.
Step Three:
Sprinkle the 100 and thousands on the top - as much or as little as you would like!
Step Four:
Make the Balloon Rainbow Cake Topper! I bought this balloon cake topper set from www.candleandcake.co.uk. It came with instructions but I followed their blog post on how to make the topper here.

Step Five:
The fun bit - put it all together and ‘Ta Da’ one finished cake! Now how easy was that!
Keep in touch as I am going to try and write up a quick blog post this week on how to make our Balloon Rainbow Banner (see the picture below). We started making these rainbows for our girls on their birthdays a few years ago and it has quickly become a firm family tradition! It is quick and easy to do, but so effective. It makes a lovely place to leave the presents for the excited kids to find on the morning of their birthdays.
Well I hope you all enjoyed this quick and easy party cake hack! If you give it a go let me know how it goes and share you pictures! Tag me on Instagram @madejustsew or comment below!
